What is JCPenney’s return policy?
Purchases made in store or at jcp.com are eligible for a return or exchange with a receipt within 60 days of the original purchase date. Refunds will be issued on the original form of payment or JCPenney Gift Card. Some exclusions apply. Returns without a receipt may be eligible for a JCPenney Merchandise Return Voucher at the item’s lowest selling price within the last 45 days when accompanied by a valid ID*.Some Exclusions Apply.
What can’t be returned?
Gift Cards, Monogrammed Items, Personalized Items, Altered Items, Body Jewelry, Face Masks, False/Fake Eyelashes, Ear Piercing Kits, Perishable Foods, and Services.
How do I return an in-store purchase with a receipt?
We gladly accept most returns at any of our JCPenney stores. Simply bring your item(s) along with your receipt within 60 days of the purchase date and an associate will be happy to assist with your return. Some Exclusions Apply. Some Exclusions Apply.
What if I made the order on jcp.com?
Items purchased at JCP.com are eligible for a return with a receipt within 60 days of the original purchase date. Refunds will be issued on the original form of payment or JCPenney Gift Card. Orders purchased with PayPal will be refunded as cash when the customer is present at the point of return or as a check to the customer’s billing address when the customer is not present. Some Exclusions Apply.
A receipt for your jcp.com order could include:
- Receipt received at pick up in-store
- Order confirmation email
- Order details within your Shopping History (if signed into JCP account)
- Packing slip shipped with package
Merchandise sold exclusively on JCP.com may have certain exclusions that apply. Shipping and handling charges are non-refundable unless the merchandise is delivered was the wrong item, is damaged, defective or was shipped to a location other than the shipping address that was provided when ordered. Manufacturers’ warranties may apply in certain situations.
There are two ways you can return your jcp.com order:
At a JCPenney store: Bring your order to one of our JCPenney stores. This is the quickest way to return most merchandise and receive a refund or store credit. Some exclusions apply. To return furniture/mattress items, call customer care at 1.800.442.7902.
Online Returns by Mail: Simply log in to your account and select the order with the item(s) you want to return. Click the “Start a Return” button and follow the prompts. If you do not have a JCPenney account, click this link to view your order and start a return. There is return fee that will be subtracted from your refund amount. Credits can take up to 4 weeks based on shipping and processing time.
- Why does it cost $8 to ship my return back to JCPenney?
UPS will ship your order back to JCPenney for the flat $8 fee. This has been significantly discounted and will cover your entire return from a single order.
- Do we offer free returns at my local JCPenney store?
Yes, visit our store and your returns are ALWAYS free. Plus, we’ll process your return for items under $8. Maybe you’ll find something else to love!
How long does it take for a refund to appear on a JCPenney Credit Card account?
Refunds to a JCPenney Credit Card typically take 3- 4 days to post to your account from the day the merchandise was received.
How long does it take for a refund to appear on Bank Card or Debit Card?
For information about refunds to a third party credit card, contact your financial institution. It typically takes 7-10 days to post to your account from the day the merchandise was received.
Do you have a Price Match Guarantee?
Yes, we offer our price match guarantee to ensure that you always find value in your purchase. Within 14 days after your purchase, if you find a lower, currently advertised price on an identical item at a competitor, just bring the ad to a JCPenney store and we’ll match that price and refund you the difference.* Does not include: JCPenney Salon Services, Optical, Portrait, In-Home Custom Window Treatments or Services. What if I don‘t have a receipt?

Valid photo identification is required for all non-receipted returns or exchanges. Information from the ID will be retained in a secured company-wide database to monitor the number of un-receipted returns. JCPenney accepts the following IDs for returns: U.S., Puerto Rican, Canadian and Mexican Driver’s License; U.S. State IDs; Puerto Rican IDs; Canadian Province IDs; U.S. Military IDs; U.S. Laser Visa; Passports; Matrícula Consular Card; Puerto Rican Voter Identification Card, and Mexican Voter Registration Card. JCPenney reserves the right to limit returns or exchanges with or without a valid receipt.
For purchases and returns made in the states of CT and MA: Customers must return any purchase within 60 days of the purchase date to receive a refund of the sales tax. Returns made after 60 days of the purchase date will receive the refund of the purchase price excluding the sales tax.
