Tips to take flight

Are you planning a trip by plane? Here are some suggestions to help travel go smoother.

• Book tickets early to take advantage of lower prices.

• Get extra price reductions on less busy travel days. (Bonus: you’ll have an easier time at the airport.)

 • Pick an early flight, so if it’s delayed, you can catch a later one the same day.

 • On the day of your trip, give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport to avoid feeling rushed.

Rules of the road

If you plan to drive to your destination, here are some tips to help make your trip easier.

Get a tune-up before you leave to make sure your car is in good working condition.

• Start your trip with a full tank of gas.

Leave early in the morning, so you’ll have more time to spend at your destination.

Pack up the car the night before.

Take breaks on long trips. (Tip: find a playground and give the kids time to run around.)

All is bright—& calm!

The holidays are a time of joy, yet they can create anxiety if you have a difficult family member. Here’s how to make the most of your time together and not lose your cool.

Avoid controversial topics like politics, religion and social issues.

• Consider things you have in common and prepare topics of conversation ahead of time.

• Rehearse ways to switch topics. For example, say “Thanks for your concern” or “Let me think about it,” and then change the conversation.

• Set a time limit on the visit and take breaks.
